Cable-stayed Bridge over Paraguay river

The “Bi-oceanic Bridge” Carmelo Peralta Bridge connects Brazil and Paraguay at the cities of Porto Murtinho (BR) and Carmelo Peralta (PY). It is a cable-stayed bridge with a central span of 350 meters and a total length of 632 meters, plus two access viaducts.

The Detailed Design of the Cable Stayed Bridge was developed by Studio DMA between 2022 and 2024, in parallel with the progress of the construction activities, and it was fully approved by the Client (MOPC) on May 2024.

The central and side spans have different lengths, and as a result, the cross-sections, weights, and lengths of the cast-in-place segments are also different to ensure the stability of the cantilevered structure during construction and service.

The construction of the piers and the first 70 meters of the towers has already been completed, and work is currently progressing on the final section of the towers and the start of the deck.

The construction of the bridge is managed by the Joint Venture of the Brazilian and Paraguayan companies Tecnoedil-Paulitec-Cidade for the final Client, that is the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Comunicaciones of Paraguay.
